SPARTACUS-v3 (1 d): Daily climate data for Austria

Description

Public

This gridded data set describes the spatial distribution of observed daily air temperature (minimum (TN), maximum (TX) and two types of mean (TM, TM24)), precipitation (RR) and sunshine duration (SA) over Austria since 1961 at 1-km resolution. For the mean temperature, anomalies relative to two reference periods (1961-1990 and 1991-2020) are also provided. The data set is updated daily.

Changes between v2.1 and v3 affect (1) the number of valid grid points for precipitation (additional regions outside Austria); (2) the stations used for the interpolation (new: foreign stations are used for precipitation); (3) the gap filling algorithm for station data for temperature and sunshine duration; (4) the temporal homogeneity of the station data and the integrated homogenisation algorithm. Moreover, an additional variable, TM24 (mean temperature based on hourly measurements), is provided. More details are available in the data set description.

The data set is based on station data by GeoSphere Austria (https://data.hub.geosphere.at/de/dataset/klima-v2-1d) and by the weather services of the neighbouring countries. Due to manual quality checks, the station data can undergo corrections up to a few days after the measurements take place. For this reason, SPARTACUS fields for the last 7 days are continously updated. Only after 7 days does the data set reach its final, consolidated state.
